TELEPHONE CODES


TELEPHONE CODES
There are basically three categories of Telephone codes
(1) International calling codes/Phone area codes
(2)Service providers' telephone codes
(3)Manufacturers' Secret/unlocking Telephone codes.

INTERNATIONAL CALLING CODES
This is the number you dial as a prefix to the number you wish to call. The codes vary from country to country and are used in making long distance calls. For example, a GSM mobile phone number in Nigeria is 08071052328.You can dial this number as it is if you are calling within Nigeria. However,to call this number from another country other than Nigeria, you must add the International calling code as a prefix which is 234.
Some countries and their international calling codes are listed below as examples.

COUNTRY & INTERNATIONAL CALLING CODES
(1) Nigeria 234
(2) Namibia 264
(3) U.S.A 1
(4) Uruguay 598

As an example, to call from Nigeria to Namibia you dial 009+264+number ( 009 is the exit country code) To check for the international calling codes of countries, visit: www.callingcode.com
PHONE AREA CODES: These are codes allocated to areas/cities within a country.We use Nigeria as example.

AREA/CITY & PHONE AREA CODES
(1) Abeokuta 90
(2) Benin City 52
(3) Badagry 1
(4) Calabar 87

To call Nigeria, you dial EXIT COUNTRY CODE+234+PHONE AREA CODE+NUMBER.
